The Washington Post sent questionnaires to each school board candidate about the most pressing issues in Loudoun County and their top priorities. Candidates discussed many of the same topics: recovering pandemic-fueled learning loss, finding ways to retain quality teachers and a desire to rebuild trust with the community.

On Sept. 14 the Internal LCPS Report Regarding the 2 Sexual Assaults in 2021 was released. We have waited for over 2 years to know and understand the TRUTH here in Loudoun. What should have been released immediately, so that we could move on as a community and so that victims could continue to heal, has been dragged through the national media, rumored to contain criminal coverups, and has kept relevant facts in the dark, all the while creating a chasm of distrust between school leadership and our community and schools.

Lauren Shernoff is a public school educator. She has been for 17 years. (2022) It’s a Friday night in October, which means that Lauren Shernoff and her husband Alex are knocking on doors in a Leesburg neighborhood. People who aren’t home or don’t come to the door get a campaign door hanger. People who are home get a version of Shernoff’s spiel, which sounds something like this: “Are you following what’s going on in Loudoun? It’s hard to miss,” she says to one resident. “I’m a teacher in Loudoun and a mom, and I really just want to bring the polarization to a place where we can start to really impact outcomes for kids.”
